Ria this is beautiful! The use of imagery is really captivating. I felt like I could picture each paper-mâché object and how they worked harmoniously together 😊
Your imagery is incredible. The paper elephant, paper dove, paper butterfly tears, and finally the paper stars all feel like different versions of the same self, constantly changing shape.I really appreciated how the poem mirrors the properties of paper itself. It begins with collapse and brittleness, moves through dissolution, and ends with intentional refolding. The structure reinforces the emotional arc.
thank you so much for this comment and for reading! i love when people can see the different levels of understanding i weave into each piece, and for this piece i loved incorporating different paper beings to make a composite whole.
I can’t even describe how much I loved this poem. It definitely touched something deep inside my soul. I am grateful to you for writing it and sharing it with me. This is really beautiful and metaphorical. I endlessly love it.
“i am a montage:
a paper-clipped conglomeration,
a tight-lipped, fair-headed devastation.
i am a collage
of every chewed, bitten, and spitted thing” — my favourite part!
Interesting way to explore human fragility in this way, almost through paper itself, through the metaphor of plastic hearts. It feels like a universal image. It shocked me deeply and reminded me of how something so fragile can be so beautiful, while also awakening so many other emotions. Thank you for writing this. It's one of my favorite poems I've read on Substack.

Loved it, ria!❤️
This is such a beautiful meditation on fragility. I love how paper-mâché becomes both an image of vulnerability and an image of creation.
genuinely one of my favourite writers here, thank you for sharing this 💜
